How a micro GCC is set up in seven days

By , Partner, India ยท 2026-10-22

A micro GCC can be operational in about seven days when the company uses an employer-of-record arrangement and a pre-qualified talent pipeline; setting up its own Indian subsidiary first takes about four to six weeks.

This summarises Chapter Eleven of The Micro-GCC Advantage by Anupam Shrivastav (2026). The book is careful about what seven days means. It does not mean a mature, fully independent operation. It means the legal, structural, compliance and talent foundations are in place and a governed team is producing output. Maturity, deeper capability and the full financial benefit take longer.

Why it used to take six to twelve months

Before about 2020 the steps depended on one another. Registering an entity in India took months of regulatory work. A bank account needed an entity. Employment contracts needed a confirmed entity. The book says that sequence made an enterprise GCC a six-to-twelve-month programme.

What changed

Managed entity services have standardised the common set-up routes for smaller companies, employer-of-record providers can employ people from day one before any entity exists, and banking can be opened in parallel. So three tracks now run at the same time: legal and structural, talent, and operations and governance.

The seven days

  • Days 1 to 2. Choose employer of record or subsidiary. Start the bank account. Register or inherit the statutory compliance baseline.
  • Days 2 to 4. Issue job specifications to pre-qualified candidate pools. Screen remotely. Shortlist two or three candidates per role and check references.
  • Days 3 to 5. Set up communication, documentation and version control tools. Agree reporting and governance rhythm. Put IP protection and a data security baseline in place.
  • Days 5 to 6. Issue offers, agree terms, confirm start dates, prepare onboarding.
  • Day 7. First team meeting, mandate briefing, working rules, first deliverable timeline agreed.

The assumptions behind it

  • An employer-of-record structure. With a subsidiary, the book puts entity registration at four to six weeks.
  • A talent pipeline that is already pre-qualified.
  • Statutory compliance in India is handled from the start: provident fund, state insurance, tax deducted at source and professional tax apply to a team of five exactly as they do to a team of five thousand.

Seven days starts the team. Governance and quality take longer to mature, so it is worth reading what a micro GCC is and how to decide whether to build one before committing.
